Artists and their weird backstage requests

When a musical artist or band becomes famous, concerts become larger, and so do the production crews for each event. The infra-structure becomes more intricate, stage and backstage. Producers feel that the artist must be fulfilled in his every need, in order for himself to enjoy the concert as well. However, making some famous artists feel comfortable can be quite difficult, as it is known that many of them are way too demanding. For example, Barbra Streisand demands rose petals on toilet seats, Moby’s dressing room must have an excessive amount of spare underwear, Coldplay refuses North-American beers at all cost, and Beyonce only consumes Pepsi products. Other remarkable demands:

Eric Clapton needs space in his dressing room enough to fit a foosball table and twelve people. There also has to be a private bathroom for himself.

When David Hasselhoff decides to sing in concerts, his dressing room must have a life-size cardboard cutout picture of himself.

Jennifer Lopez must have and all-white dressing room, including carpet and furniture, and her coffee can only be stirred counter-clockwise.

Both Amy Winehouse, when still alive, and The Black Eyed Peas required a sober crew to handle their gear, which is ironic in Amy Winehouse’s case.

Prince likes everything in his dressing room to be wrapped in plastic until he himself unwraps for use. He also needs a doctor always available to inject him with B12 vitamin, for reasons unknown.

Britney Spears requires a very detailed list of foods, which is normal to a certain extent, but she also requires a private phone line for outgoing calls only. If she happens to receive any incoming calls on this private line, the promoter is fined in US$5.000.

Mariah Carey always likes to have a collection of small furry animals, champagne and bendy straws backstage.

In the other hand, Paul McCartney’s dressing room must not, at any circumstance, have anything animal-related, only plants and vegetarian foods.

One of the most famous weird requests is Van Halen’s. There must be bowls of MM’s in their dressing rooms, except none of them can be brown. The excuse the band gave was that they had to include small details in their contract in order to certify if the promoter was paying full attention to it.

But the winner surely is Mötley Crüe, the pioneers of throwing TV sets off hotel room windows. Their rock and roll attitude can be easily confirmed by their backstage list. Aside from the unsuspicious Grey Poupon mustard and creamy peanut butter, their dressing room had to be furnished with a 12-foot long-boa constrictor, an 8mm sub-machine gun and the schedule for the Alcoholic’s Anonymous meetings in town.

Corruption

Hello everybody! Today I will talk about corruption, in specially that was considered the greatest political scandal of Brazil, the big monthly allowance or, in portuguese, " O Men$alão".
This Case happened in 2005, and only today the 38 accused in this scandal were on trial. That's why I want to talk about corruption, just to recall some events.

Understand the case:

In 2005, Roberto Jefferson,  a political party president (PTB), after being accused for corruption, made serious allegations against the brazilian government. He said that another party, paid an allowance to some deputies, to vote for government projects and the main target was the Minister-Chief of Staff, José Dirceu.

Roberto Jefferson told that, the deputies received around R$ 30.000,00 per month. Thenceforth, the fight started. Videos of deputies receiving money, advisers caught with money in his underwear and socks.. and allegations, more and more allegations started to appear to report the scheme of the monthly allowance (and the president, knew nothing! strange, is not ?!). An advertising executive, Marcos Valério, accused of being one of the creators of the monthly allowance, made threats, and distributed money to all who reported the scheme. So, "the circus was armed", deputies started to swear innocence, and make ethical discourses.

How can we believe in a person who, after being caught with R$ 100.000,00 in his underwear, says that all the money was from selling vegetables? The worst part is to see the education, health, security, of our country, getting worse, and know that the people that we ( or, most of us) choose to take care of Brazil are, actually, stealing from us.

During all these years, CPIs (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) were created, deputies and ministers, lost their office, but what prevailed was the impunity.

Today, was the first day of the trial, the trial of 5 hours, 3 hours were just to decide the way that the accused would be tried.

Men who were considered important in government, are now, paying for the greatest politics crime in Brazil. And they will be an example for the next one.
Now, we can only wait for the end of the trial, because what is at stake is the reputation of one of the Republic's Power.

The best-selling music albums around the world

Apart from live presentations and copyright money, one of the best sources of income artists have at their disposal is record sales. Nowadays, that may not be exactly true, but some years ago, before music download was invented, people either bought albums at the stores, or waited for their favorite songs to play on the radio. That explains why the best-selling albums of all time are older ones.

The first place among the best-selling albums is Michael Jackson’s Thriller, released in 1982, with an estimate between 110 and 140 million units sold worldwide. It’s Michael Jackson’s sixth album, and its songs mix pop, soul, R&B and rock to keep Jackson’s unique musical characteristics. Seven songs from Thriller were released as singles, and all of them made it to Billboard’s top ten, which reflects their success. Between them are the album’s homonymous Thriller, Beat It (featuring guest of honor Eddie Van Halen, who played the guitar for the song) and Billie Jean. From 1982 to 1984, Thriller and its songs were nominated and won many awards, such as thirteen Billboard awards and eight Grammies.

Having sold approximately half the units that Thriller sold, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon comes second on the list. It was released in 1973, and, without a doubt, the record was one of the most remarkable ever released. Pink Floyd is known for their musical experiments, almost never writing conventional songs, and Dark Side of the Moon shows their best results in experimenting. Not only the introduction of dialogs during the songs was remarkable, but the relationship between the album and the movie The Wizard of Oz (1939). If the movie and the album are played simultaneously, there is no shortage of coincidences (for example, the sound of heartbeats at the end of the album, at the same time as Dorothy, at the movie, tries to hear Tin Man’s heart, and the fact that most of the songs’ lengths coincide with the scenes’). Dark Side of the Moon was re-released in its 20th and 30th anniversaries, both reedited versions, featuring the same hit songs, such as Time, Money and Us and Them.

With just a few copies behind Dark Side of the Moon is AC/DC’s Back in Black. It was released in 1980. Back in Black is AC/DC’s comeback album after the death of their former lead singer, Bon Scott, from an alcoholic intoxication, followed by his replacement by Brian Johnson, who still sings for the band. Back in Black features some of the band’s most famous songs, such as Hell’s Bells, You Shook me All Night Long, and the album’s homonymous, Back in Black, which turned into a rock and roll icon. The creativity of the band members is over the edge, as they keep releasing songs until today, following the same winning formula as found in Back in Black, never losing quality.

Also showing up at the best-seller list are many movie soundtracks, such as the ones in The Bodyguard, Dirty Dancing, Phantom of the Opera, Saturday Night Fever and Titanic, along with The Eagles’ and Queen’s greatest hits compilations. Many other bands, such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Madonna and even The Backstreet Boys are among the best-sellers.

Chanel

Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born in Saumur, 1883 - and died in Paris, 1971. Was known as Coco which means something like "darling", a nickname she took when she used to sing in bars.Chanel went to Paris with 18 years old, and soon met Etienne Balsam, a millionaire with whom she had an affair and helped open her first store hats.

She liberated women from the tracks and belts, the tight corsets, the skirts of multiple ruffles of the late 19th and early 20's century, and introduced the straight and simple skirts, plaid fabrics and short jackets.

The bag with gold chain straps (the model 2.55), pearl necklace, the tailleur and the black dress are the symbols of elegance and status that marked forever the history of fashion. But was her perfume, the Chanel n° 5 - considered the world's best selling -, which made her millionaire. These are the logotypes of Chanel:

Chanel was a symbol of elegance, independence and personality. She was a women ahead of her time, changed the 20's.

Since 1993 Karl Lagerfeld is the creative director of the brand, both haute-couture and prêt-à-porter (ready-to-wear) lines, and keeps very well the elegance and innovation of Chanel.
