The best-selling music albums around the world

Apart from live presentations and copyright money, one of the best sources of income artists have at their disposal is record sales. Nowadays, that may not be exactly true, but some years ago, before music download was invented, people either bought albums at the stores, or waited for their favorite songs to play on the radio. That explains why the best-selling albums of all time are older ones.

The first place among the best-selling albums is Michael Jackson’s Thriller, released in 1982, with an estimate between 110 and 140 million units sold worldwide. It’s Michael Jackson’s sixth album, and its songs mix pop, soul, R&B and rock to keep Jackson’s unique musical characteristics. Seven songs from Thriller were released as singles, and all of them made it to Billboard’s top ten, which reflects their success. Between them are the album’s homonymous Thriller, Beat It (featuring guest of honor Eddie Van Halen, who played the guitar for the song) and Billie Jean. From 1982 to 1984, Thriller and its songs were nominated and won many awards, such as thirteen Billboard awards and eight Grammies.

Having sold approximately half the units that Thriller sold, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon comes second on the list. It was released in 1973, and, without a doubt, the record was one of the most remarkable ever released. Pink Floyd is known for their musical experiments, almost never writing conventional songs, and Dark Side of the Moon shows their best results in experimenting. Not only the introduction of dialogs during the songs was remarkable, but the relationship between the album and the movie The Wizard of Oz (1939). If the movie and the album are played simultaneously, there is no shortage of coincidences (for example, the sound of heartbeats at the end of the album, at the same time as Dorothy, at the movie, tries to hear Tin Man’s heart, and the fact that most of the songs’ lengths coincide with the scenes’). Dark Side of the Moon was re-released in its 20th and 30th anniversaries, both reedited versions, featuring the same hit songs, such as Time, Money and Us and Them.

With just a few copies behind Dark Side of the Moon is AC/DC’s Back in Black. It was released in 1980. Back in Black is AC/DC’s comeback album after the death of their former lead singer, Bon Scott, from an alcoholic intoxication, followed by his replacement by Brian Johnson, who still sings for the band. Back in Black features some of the band’s most famous songs, such as Hell’s Bells, You Shook me All Night Long, and the album’s homonymous, Back in Black, which turned into a rock and roll icon. The creativity of the band members is over the edge, as they keep releasing songs until today, following the same winning formula as found in Back in Black, never losing quality.

Also showing up at the best-seller list are many movie soundtracks, such as the ones in The Bodyguard, Dirty Dancing, Phantom of the Opera, Saturday Night Fever and Titanic, along with The Eagles’ and Queen’s greatest hits compilations. Many other bands, such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Madonna and even The Backstreet Boys are among the best-sellers.

Chanel

Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born in Saumur, 1883 - and died in Paris, 1971. Was known as Coco which means something like "darling", a nickname she took when she used to sing in bars.Chanel went to Paris with 18 years old, and soon met Etienne Balsam, a millionaire with whom she had an affair and helped open her first store hats.

She liberated women from the tracks and belts, the tight corsets, the skirts of multiple ruffles of the late 19th and early 20's century, and introduced the straight and simple skirts, plaid fabrics and short jackets.

The bag with gold chain straps (the model 2.55), pearl necklace, the tailleur and the black dress are the symbols of elegance and status that marked forever the history of fashion. But was her perfume, the Chanel n° 5 - considered the world's best selling -, which made her millionaire. These are the logotypes of Chanel:

Chanel was a symbol of elegance, independence and personality. She was a women ahead of her time, changed the 20's.

Since 1993 Karl Lagerfeld is the creative director of the brand, both haute-couture and prêt-à-porter (ready-to-wear) lines, and keeps very well the elegance and innovation of Chanel.

Euro Crisis

Hello! In this post I'll talk about Euro Crisis.

The world has been shaken by the debt crisis of the Europe countries. The Old World, cradle of Illuminism, Renaissance, and Industrial Revolution, ensured, in front of the world, the status of a region of high economy development and social welfare, but, the image built over centuries, is now associated with marked turbulence.

The impacts of crisis are large and we can clearly see in the world, like the high unemployment, declining sales and a reduction in spending. Just to get an idea, last week, I read a news that even the famous Nobel Prize winners, will face a cost-cutting, of 20% in the values of the awards.

The crisis that in the beginning was financial ( resulted from the impact of U.S. crisis on European banks) became fiscal, by the expenses incurred by the government to prevent unemployment, and it is today, politic, because the failure to pay, leads to a disagreement between the government and creditors ( in Europe, five governments have already fallen. Greece, Spain, Ireland, Italy and Portugal).

Most countries are included in this economic impact, because of the globalization, there is a relationship, of interdependence between governments, an example is the foreign capital injected into the investments that, due to crisis, subsided, weakening the general economy. The spanish banks have announced losses from unpaid loans, in the same way, are Germany, France and Belgium. Economists says that is far from a solution.

Here in Brazil, measures to face the crisis are being taken, one in particular was the reduction of the IPI ( tax on industrialized products ). According to the minister of finance, the reduction stimulates the economy and avoid layoffs.
The Minister' intentions looks good, but it's important to remember that the price reductions, and "facilities" in the purchase are only to avoid a crisis in the economy, we must not act reckless, buying without the actual need, because it would cause non-payment, wich is exactly what we are fighting against, to improve the economy.

So, is important to be prepared for the crisis, and the "temptation" to which the government offers us too (as the low prices), so that we are not victims of our own acts.

The Siri developers had announced that their software would be available for BlackBerry and for Android-powered phones, but all development efforts for non-Apple platforms were cancelled after the acquisition by Apple.

With Siri You can talk to your iPhone and it will understand you, here is some exemples:

Hey guys!!
How are you going?
Well, this is our first contact here on the blog about movies.

I'll start posting for you a list of 50 blockbuster movies, this does not mean they are the best, but it generated more profit.
Particularly I think there are much better films that are not on the list, but that is because there are several factors that influence such as year of release, ticket prices at the time, facilities with media and other things.

                                               Leader

Typically the leaders are the movies of the greatest production, as an avatar which is in the first place.
It's a big production and have fantastic effects, but honestly I think there are much better stories and screenplays, as Forrest Gump that is in last place.

So,why Avatar is in the first and Forrest Gump in the last place?
This happen because normally the year that Forrest Gump was released in 1994, access to the cinema was less and the price of tickets too, not to mention that the disclosure also didn`t have many media as in 2009, the year of release of Avatar.
This explains why a great script like the Forrest loses to Avatar, which is limited only to a big production in my opinion.

This post were for you know a little of the film industry, these movies on the list will help you in choosing a good movie to watch.
No doubt big productions!

In the coming posts I'll show you what is happening in industry, leave some tips and opinions.
I'll give you suggestions for good movies, award-winning and lots of amazing things.
Everything that happens in the big screen you can follow here.

I hope you enjoy.
